Meerkat Class - Year Four
A warm welcome to our class page!
Class Teacher: Mr Townend
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Bateman
Hello and thank you for visiting Meerkat's class page. Here, you will be able to find the most up-to-date information regarding all things Year 4. Further down the page, you will find the class newsletter, subject knowledge organisers and home learning: all of which will be updated regularly to reflect the current learning in Meerkat Class.
If you have any questions or queries regarding your child's learning, please contact a member of the school reception staff.
At the start of the academic year, each class are asked to choose 5 statements that their class will abide by throughout the school year. In school, children are frequently reminded to follow the class code so please familiarise yourself with it and share it with your children at home.
In September, the children in Meerkat Class chose the following 5 statements for their class code:
- Show respect when others are talking.
- Always try your hardest.
- Take pride in your work.
- Be kind.
- Try new things.
Our class code also underpins, and links very closely to, our Aspirational Beehive which can be seen throughout school and in our classroom: the core values are the skills and attributes that are rewarded for demonstrating within the school environment.
Home learning will be provided at the beginning of each half term. This will be in the form of a learning menu that includes activities which are based on different subject areas of the national curriculum and the learning that has taken place in class. Pupils will have approximately 5 weeks to complete at least one of the given activities - the more they can complete, the better as home learning will then be shared in class and during our Fabulous Finish event.
Spellings will be given weekly, with pupils tested every Friday. Below, you can find a document to support your child's spelling practice at home. Please try to encourage regular spelling practice at home as we work through the statutory spellings from the National Curriculum for Lower Key Stage 2:
The link below will take you directly to the Year 4 page of the free website (Spelling Frame) where your child can practice the Year 4 spelling rules online on a computer, phone or tablet.
Regular reading is also essential for children to further extend their vocabulary and to experience a wide range of writing styles and genres. In Meerkat Class, children can access the school library and are encouraged to borrow books which appeal to their interests. We have also created an in-class self service library for our children to sign out and borrow books to read for pleasure.
Our PE days are Monday and Friday. Please make sure that on these days, children have correct PE kit (white t-shirt, black shorts and trainers). In winter months, we encourage children to bring a jacket/jumper and long trousers to wear as well. Please ensure your child's clothing is labelled as it remains their responsibility to look after their clothing and equipment.
If you have any questions or queries about your child's learning, please do not hesitate to get in touch
During a Fabulous Finish, parents will be invited into school to celebrate what the children have learnt. The class will have the opportunity to talk to you about the learning that they have produced as well as celebrate their successes. Look out for dates on our class newsletters.
